The Lord Mayor presided at a conference at tho Mansion House of five hundred of tho most prominent business men in Britain, representative of aU branches of trade and industry. Tho conference xave a cordial reception to the speeches which were delivered by Mr, \f. 11. Hughes (Australian Primo Miuis. ter), and Mr. Foster (Canadian Minister for Trade), offering an indication that leading trade circles earnestly sup. port tho fulfilment of the recominenda. tions of the Paris Conference. Mr. Hughes denounced tho pro-Ger. man firms which in Britain were acting as caretakers of Germany's 'nterests, hopefully awaiting the resumption of friendly relations. "We must slam tho door on those hopes." Mr. Foster emphasised Canada's singleminded support of tho policy that the resources of the Empire must bo reserved primarily for our own people and our own posterity,
