ALLEGED HARSH TREATMENT.
By Telegraph—Press Ass iciatbn.
• . ' Hamilton, June 22. As a result of what they considered unreasonable treatment at the hands of Dr. Bernstein, medical superintendent of the Waikato Sanatorium, seven relumed soldiers left that institution. The administration of the institution, they allege, was so, severe that life became almost unbearable. ■ Games were largely prohibited, and cards, which the men used wore, seized, although there ha<( been no gambling. The climax was reached when one rf the soldiers, for walking with a lady in the grounds, was practically placed in solitary confinement. As the men's compjaints met with, no redress—they state they were either ignored or Teceived with abuse—they were .forced to take other steps to meet tho arbitrary treatment they" were subjected to, and in consequence they left tho institution. .
On arrival at Cambridge the men communicated with Miliar Northcroft, officer commanding the Group, and supplied him with a statement of their grievances. Major Northcroft arranged for tho men to goto the Waikato Hospital, where- they still remain.
