FIRST ANNUAL MEETING. (Special Reporter.) . Palmerston North, Juno 21. There was a large attendanco •of pig breeders sit the first annual meeting of the New Zealand Pig Breeders' Association, tho president, Mr. Fetclier, presiding. , 1 „
The report showed that since the formation o£ the association on November 5, 1915, steady progress had been made in increased membership, and the entries for the Herd Book were most encouraging. Tho balance-sheet showed a credit of £,'!■'! Is. lid. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The president stated that, though the rules provided that no pig could be placed on the Herd Book without pedigrees of four generations being supplied, that did not' apply, however, in the case of pigs which could bo traced back two or three generations to animals that were registered in another Herd Bool:.
Other speakers considered that the Herd Book should be open to pigs from well-known breeders ivho may not have kept their extended pedigrees, but could guarantee that they were from pure strain. , A long discussion followed, and it was resolved to open the Herd Book, to pigs whoso pedigree dated back to tho , third generation. , Tho Tules were confirmed, and authority was given to register the society. ' Tho time for receiving entries for the Herd Book was extended to November 1, 191 G. It was decided that the next annual general meeting be held at the Winter Show next year. Tho secretary, Mr: Linton, was voted an honorarium of .£lO. N.Z. AYRSHIRE BREEDERS ■' THE ANNUAL REPORT. (From Our Special Reporter.) ' Palmerston North, Junte 21. Tho annual report of the New Zealand Ayrshire Breeders' Association submitted to the annual meeting at Palmerston North this afternoon revealed an improved -financial condition. The membership was the same as last year, namely, UVthough more members had taken advantage of the semi-official testing, but there was still'much room for improvement. ■ Tho president deplored the fact that breeders did not extend any great effort to bring their breed into popular favour. ■ The report and balance-sheet were adopted. -■ • 'The election of officers resulted in Mr. D. Buchanan being ; returned president, and Messrs; Lonsdale,'F. Mills, and W. Hull, were elected to- fill •,vacancies on the committee: ;. It was decided to recommend the incoming Committee to close the appendix to bulls, but that cows .be registered; bulls to be.still allowed registration in the-Herd Book. It was further resolved that' the incoming committee be recommended to inaugurate an Ayrshire Derby sweepstake, the calves to he entered within tho first month of birth, and completed when the heifer is three years old.
