SAILORS' DEPENDANTS' FUND

THE NAVY LEAGUE'S APPEAL. A meeting of the Navy' League's Special Committee, set up last Wednesday, was held at the Mayor's Room last night,' His Worship, as president of the league, was in the chair. Mr'/ T. M. Wilford sent an apology on account of his departure for the south. The net result from the street collection was reported by the treasurer to be ■£791 ,and,tlie balance in the bank ,£isos ISs. 6d. Other sums are to be added to this ,and it was resolved to cable, through tlip High Commissioner, .£SOOO to the Navy League Emergency "Committee in London, for prompt disbursement at the naval ports where most urgently required. It was reported that tho' Countess of Glasgow's concert had resulted ill a profit of .£303 9s. 3d. On the motion of the Mayor it was.unanimously resolved that. a. letter conveying tlio league's hearty--thanks and appreciation, be sent to the Countess, of Glasgow. Mr. C. It .Smith reported that arrangements had been made to post 25,000 circulars of appeal to householders, including 3000 sheep-farmers, and this was being done absolutely without cost. The circulars had been printed by The Dominion; the envelopes donated by several wholesale houses, and the address-, illg of these had been carried out gratuitously by 200 clerks, in various Government and private offices and mercantile houses. Letters of appreciation were sent to the various 1 nursing guilds and the National Reserve, Patriotic Society, Victoria League, and other bodies who had given valuable help in augmenting the Relief Fund.'
