. : —9— MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of the Victoria College Council was held last evening, Mr. C. Watson presiding. The following .tfete also .present:—The liev, W. A. Evans, Professors Anderson and Brown, Messrs. .It. M'Cnllum, M.P., A. E. Atkinson, T. B. Fleming, W. Ferguson, and the Hon. J. G. W. Aitkon.

A resolution was passed thanking Professor Marsden for tne donation of a tube containing radium valued at J!25.' It was resolved that u reply be sent to the letter from the Students' Association to the effect , that tlie council does hot consider that it. is necessary to keep the office open during the hours suggested by the association, but that. the registrar will be pleased to make special appointments if notified by telephone or otherwise.

It was decided that the sum of ,£3500, which, had just been received from the trustees of tho. S. A. Rhodes estate be placed with the Bank of New Zealand on fixed deposit for two years, subject to tho consent of the trustees being first obtained. It was stated that the amount received from this source to dato was .£7OOO. ■

Accounts amounting to ,£997 18s. 7d. wore passed for payment.
