——->- ——■ . NOTES AND COMMENTS !By Glbncoe.l Nominations for. all. handicap events at the Winter Meeting of t' lo Wellington Racing Club closes on Friday next, at 9 p.m. The Wellington Steoplechaso is worth 1000 spvs., Anzac Steeplechase 400 sots., and July Steeplechase 500 sovs. The Winter Hurdles is worth COO sovs., and tho Trial Hurdles 350 sovs. Tho principal flat events are the Parliamentary Handicap, 400 sovs.j-Fleet Handicap, 300 sovs.; and Winter Oats Handicap, 250 sovs. Tho annual conference of Country Racing Chubs will be held in Wellington on July 11. The Trotting Conference will also be held on July 11, and tho Racing Conference on July 14. Mr. W. J. Ralph, owner of El Gallo, is at present on a visit to Wellington. It is understood that the Great Northern hero.will be raced at Trontham and lliccarton at the Winter Meetings. Word from the south states that Kilboy is.in work at Oainaru. This points to the C.J.C. Challenge Stakes winner making the trip to Sydney for the Spring Meeting of the Australian Jockey Club. The Porirua jumpers, Naupata, Precious Metal, and Portland Lady, in charge of JJ. M'Sweeney, left for Napier yesterday, and will race there and at Hastings next week. J. H. Prosser was busy with his youngsters, and could not spare tho time to make the'trip, but if the horses go through the Napier meeting all right the Porirua mentor will probably run up to Hastings next week. There has been a good deal of excite, ment in trotting circles in Christchureh during the past week, arid it was freely 6tated that Admiral Wood and Minstou were to leave J. Hryce's stables. The pair are owned by Mr. T. Sheen, of Auckland, but a lady owner in the person of Mrs. E. 31. Seymour stepped in and bought tho horses, and they are to remain in Bryce's stables. Admiral Wood will, it is understood, receive a special preparation for the New Zealand Cup to be ran in November. . ' A. M'Aulay is at present handling three very promising juveniles at Ricoarton. They are the Australian-bred colt by Flavus from Lady Content, the filly by Boniform from Grand Rain, and the filly by Kilbroney from Orange Pippin. Judging by their latest efforts at Rio. carton, Mescal and Kilmeny will require a lot more, schooling before being started in, cross-country events. Kilmeny in particular is not fulfilling the early promise he 6howed as a jumper. Though nothing has been definitely settled yet, it is probable that Mr. G. D. Greenwood will be represented at tho Spring Meeting of the Australian Jockey Club. The plans will probably depend, however, on the juvenile members of the team. With a view to getting a line as early as possible,.R. J..Mason is now doing some strong work with the yearlings Biplane (Comedy King—Air Motor) and Lovesick (Martian—Lovelorn). They vera sprinted in company on Saturday, when' both of them shaped attractively. The two-yeai-old filly Furling and the imported filly Henriette, by Henry the

First—Minnie Ormo, have joined A. M'Aulay's active division. The difference in the treatment meted out to El Gallo in tlie two big events at the V.R.C. meeting is somewhat remarkable. In the hurdle race Mr. Ralph's representative was only raised 511). on the weight ho succeeded under at Hlerslie, yet in tho Steeplechase Dr. Laii}? set him to carry a stono more than in the Great Northern Steeplechase. An apparent solution of the inconsistency is to be found in the fact that in reporting El Clallo's dual success at Ellcrslio some of the Australian papers credited him with having: carried a 101b. penalty in the I Great Northern Steeplechase as the result of his win in the Hurdles. Cyklou (by Spearmint), the Englishbred grandson of Carbine, wound up his six-year-old career attractively in South Australia on June 3, when lie won tho Birthday Cup, of 1500 sovs., under the steadier of flat. Gib., in easy style.

EL GALLO SCRATCHED. By Telegraph-Press Association-Copyright (Hoc. Juno 20, 8.45 p.m.) Melbourne, June 20. El CHJuo has been scratched for all his Grand National engagements.
