At the'-' request' of the "Wellington Branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association ' a number of citizens attended, on Monday evening, at the premises which the association has acquired for. the'.'Wellington Returned Soldiers' Club. Among those present were:' Messrs. E. D.'Bell, Alex., Gray, C. R.. Smith, J,.; A. Sim6on, P. Nathan, James Macintosh, ■T. .Wilford (chairman "Patriotic So-' .ciety); W. Ferguson (War .Relief Association), L. Trinp, M. Carr, Jollie, D. A., Ewen, P. '**iarlton, ,S. Campbell, Mack, Burke.and M. Marks. Tho committee of;'the: local ,-branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association :. were also present. Captain' Donald Simsdn, president of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers'. Association - occupied ■ the chair, and in tho course.of his introductpry. remarks (printed ' elsewhere), paid a tribute to the support accorded by. Mr. A. P.' Whatman, of (ho Wairarapa. The meeting resolved,to form a society with the. object of /providing' funds for and organising a Returned Soldiers' Club on the lines proposed by the.Returned Soldiers' Association., It was decided to elect a committee for the pur- ' poses of management, 'to consist of six citizens and six returned discharged soldiers, representing the Returned Soldiers' Association. ■■'■'
Messrs. E. D. Bell, Alex. Gray, James .Macintosh,' C. E. Smith, and J. A. Sim-son,-were elected as the interim 'Committee. 'The'committee was. instructed to draft rules' for submission to a subsequent meeting. .... The committee decided to moet apain on Monitor,. June 2G. Mr. C. W. Batten was requested to act, as secretary pro tern.' It is intended to gd straight 'ahead and organise a scheme to raise the necessary funds.
