FOR THE MINE SWEEPERS

.THE HEROES OF THE SEA. With winter not so very far away from them, people in England : have begun to think of the necessity of prouding waim clothing for the brave men who 'have been for long months daily and nightly at work removing the deadly mines which, are so plentifully strewn nil over tho waters of the North Sea The mmeBweepers it is who have made it possible for our biittlrj fleet to-protect the shores of Britain, aril to. prevent the enemy from sending commerce-raideis to the colonies. Lord Radstock,: president of the British and Foreign Sailors' Society, has uiade. an urgent appeal throughout the v.-hole British Empire for warm clothing for tho men of the mine-sweeping fleet A good response has been' made from .Canada, Australia, and from many other British possessions. The ladios of the local W.C.T.U. have been asked for their, services in this connection, and are cooperating with the British and Foreign Sailors' Society. They appeal to people of the Wellington district for warm underclothing, socks, mufflers, balaclavas, underpants, singlets, etc., either new or else in good repair. It is earnestly hoped that the large-hearted ladies of Wellington and its surrounding country districts will get' to work-and let Lord Eadstock see that, notwithstanding the many calls made upon Nci\ Zealand in consequence of the war, the brave minesweepers are not forgotten:

The goods will be received for shipment to Eugland by the following members of the W.C.T.U. :-Mrs. Nimmo, Arawo, Road, Hataitai; Mrs. R. G. Denton, 34. Thompson Street, and Mrs. Huffam, 152 Oriental Bay. Thoso wishing to help, but who may not have.the time to spare for the making or collecting of garments, may send cash contributions to any of the above-mentioned ladies, with which suitable garments will be bought and forwarded to England. . If more convenient, parcels may be left at the Y.M.C.A., addressed to any of these ladies. .'
