WATERSIDE WORKERS
About 700 members were present at a meeting of the Waterside Workers' Union," held at the X store last evening, Mr. F. Curtice presiding. 'A' resolution opposing the Military Service Bill was carried. In effect, tho resolution 6tated that compulsory eer'vice was unnecessary in New Zealand on the grounds that New Zealand had already sent a larger number of men m proportion to the population than any other overseas State. • The people of New Zealand, it was contended, would, if compulsory service was brought about, -be handed over to the military and police. It was decided to ask the New Zealand Federation to obtain the feeling of other waterside workers' unions in New Zealand on the matter. It was also decided to approach the railwaymen and the coal-miners with the object of taking joint action against the Bill.
