Father Herring, S.M. of the Wellington Archdiocese, has gone, to Auckland to conduct a mission for men during this week at St. Patrick' 6 Cathedral.

Kington Fyffe, N.Z.M.C., who states that he is returning to NewZealand by the Rotorua, which is due here next month. Major Fyffe loft New Zealand with the 4th Reinforcements and saw a good deal of active service at Gallipoli. He was also present at Westminster * Abbey on the occasion of the Anzao Day memorial service, when he was seated nest to General Birdwood, with whom he used to go to school.

Captain E. Stott, marine superintendent for tho Union Company, who underwent an operation on Friday last, was reported yesterday to be progressing, favourably.

Mr. John Puller, jun., tho eenior member of the Wellington City Council, is leaving to take up his residence, for some considerable time at least, in Sydney, where he will bo associated with his brother, Mr. Ben Fuller, in the headquarters management of the affairs of tho Fuller Vaudeville Proprietary, which at present- controls a complete circuit of theatres devoted to permanent vaudeville throughout Australasia. For the future Mr. Walter Fuller will be general manager for the firm in New Zealand.

A private cablegram received in Wellington states that Sergeant Victor Hugo, only 6on of Captain T. Hugo, of this city, has been transferred to London. Sergeant Hugo left hore with the Main Body, and when*last heard from was at the Base Post Office, Alexandria.

Judge Gilfedder. of the Native Land Court is at present in Dunedin.

Mr. T. P. Gilfedder, chairman of the Auckland branch.of the Public Sen-ice Association, is in Wellington attending the Civil Service Conference.

Mr. Li E. Johnson, private secretary to the Minister of Railways, will go into camp as a con-commissioned officer for the 20th Eeinforcement.

A Press Association telegram from Woodvillo records the death of Mr. Berkley Tyerman, aged 62, after a long illness. He was born in London, and took a farm at Wanganui 25 years ago. During the last ten years he had a stationer's business in Woodville. He leaves a widow and four sons, one of whom is on active service, and three daughters, one of whom is in the Defence Department. Deceased wag a member of various local bodies and a prominent bowler.

During the year (says the annual report of the New Zealand Publio Service Association) the Executive Committee has been deprived bv transfer of the counsels of Messrs. K. N. H. Browne (Publio Trust Office), J. H. Carrad (Justice Department), and J. Murray (Stamps Department). Resignations weroalso received from Messrs. T. W. Kirk, G. Ward, and S. L. Searell. Tho frequent business absences from Wellington of tho first-named, and the domestio circumstances of Mr. Ward, did not .enable ,them to attend meetings, and Mr. Searell joined tho Expeditionary Force. Mr. A. C. Kerr, assistant secretary and treasurer of tho New Zealand Football Association, was presented with a token of esteem by members of the council last evening on the occasion of his approaching marriage. The membors of tho "Mother Gooso" Pantomime Company are duo to arrive here from Sydney this morning.
