HAND-TO-HAND FIGHTING ON ITALIAN FRONT.
AUSTRIANS BEATEN BACK AT THREE POINTS (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright). . Rome, June 10. A communimio states: Twenty thousand Austrians attacked our lines on the Asiago Plateau between Mount Pari' and Mount Lemerele, but broke down, the enemy leaving piles of dead. ' ■ , The enemy at night attacked in tho I/aearina Valley, but fled' precipitately at daybreak after three hours' severe hand-to-hand fighting. Our line on the Adige-Breya is firmly held. The enemy's costly efforts to break it failed. AUSTRIA STRIVING FOR A DECISION AGAINST ITALY. Rome, June. IG. Tho seriousness of the situation in Galicia has spurred Austria to make : desperate efforts on the Italian front. As it is impossible to transfer troops to Galicia in time to stay the debacle, the Austrian General Staff .is striving for a decision agninst the Italians. BULGARIAN DIVISION ON THE ISONZO FRONT. Rome, Juno IG. A Bulgarian division has arrived, on tho Isonzo front to replace two Austrian divisions which were sent to Galicia. ' ITALIANS MAKE PROGRESS ON BOTH FRONTS PRISONERS, GUNS, 'AND MATERIAL CAPTURED. The High Commissioner reports: London, Jnne 17, G. 55 p.m. Between the Adige and Astico intense artillery activity took place. At Sotte Cominuni Plateau there were fierce engagements which were favourable to us. South-west of Asiago, after a heavy bombardment Mont Pau to Boscon, the enemy attacked in tho direction of Mount Magnasoschi, and between Mount , Lemerele and Boscon. After costly efforts the enemy reached the summit of Mount Lemerele,'but were dislodged by counter-attack. North-west of Asiagd we advanced between Frenzela Valley and' Marcesina. We progressed at the head of the Frenzela Valley, heights of Mount Fior, Custolgomberto, and west of Marcestina. On tho right wing tho Alpine troops took the positions of Malga, Fossetta. and Mount Magari, infiioting heavy losses on tho enemy, taking 203 prisoners, 6 guns,' J machine-guns, and much material. At Carnift and Isonzo artillery activity is in progress. Hostile aircraft bombed Padoa, resulting in three killed, eight wounded. Yesterday an air squadron dropped 160 bombs and 6000 arrows on enemy encampments north of Asiago and Nos Valley, bringing down Wo hostile machines.
