. HTJTT VALLEY SOCIETY. The annual meeting of the Hutt Valley Horticultural Society was held in the Lyceum Hall on "Wednesday evening. Mr. H. 11. Hayward (president) was in •the chair, and about 30 memberß were present. The report stated that the.sooiety had contributed £107 to patriotio purposes since the beginning'of the war. The membership now totals 195. Another daffodil vase ' has' been received front Messrs. Bairaud und Sons, London, to Tepiace the one won outright by Mr. Gibson, of Hawera: The thanks of the committee are tendered to the lady members and friends for their services in counection.with, the sale of flowers in the. tearoom, etc., also to the prize-winners "who donated their prizes for the benefit of the wounded soldiers' fund. Thanks aro ' also tendered to? tho judges, exhibitors, and donOrs of pot plants, ctc. The balance-sheet showed receipts, including ,£lß'l2s. brought forward from. Inst year, to have been is. Id., and the credit balance at the close ,ot the year' totalled ..£4O 7s. 4d; The "only liability is .£3 3s. 3d. to be paid to the Wounded Soldiers' Fund, and which by a vote.of the meeting was increased to ,£lO 10s. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. Hardham, c.o. Mr. J. Bell, near Post Oftce, Main Street. Lower Hntt. At the close of the meeting a lecture on vegetable culture was given by Mr. : F. Westbury, and a practical demonstration in the pruning of fruit treeß and bushes for the home garden was given by Mr. T. Waugli. Mr. C. Trevethick gavo a few hints on the pruning of roses, A hearty vote of thanks was accorded tho lecturers.
