EARLY CLOSING!

WHAT MEMBERS ARE SAYING. The question of the early closing of hotels is exciting considerable discussion m the lobbies. The result of the reforen. dum in ]\ew South "Wales seems to have given added interest to the question, llie supporters of enrly closing have been busy counting heads, and they are hopeful of being able to secure provision for a reduction of hours in the War Regulations Bill when it gets into committee, These members express the opinion that there is no doubt that there \ is a majority of members in favoftr of some reduction of hours and that it is not certain that there is not a majority in favour of six o'clock closing. Eight 0 clock closing fiae been suggested as a possible compromise. It is not, however, .yet possible to form any judgment as to what is likely to happen, as a number 01 members .have not yet been able to make up their minds as to how they Mould vote on a six o'clock closing motion. The taking of a referendum has been discussed, but there is a pretty strong opinion amongst many members' that the matter should be dealt with in tiio House.
