AN "INSUFFERABLE INSULT"
ANOTHER ALLEGED GERMAN.- . That Mr. Payno's anti-German activities j are sometimes far astray was evi denced- in tho House of Representatives yesterday, when the Prime Minister read the following telegram from Mr. Or. A Perry, Mayor of Hokitika:— "The following resolution was passed by the Bonmgh Council last night: 'Dr. Toickelman has been for twenty years a oitizon of this town, and is widely known and respected. He is a British subject, having been born in Adelaide, South Australia. He offered his services to tho Empire,from a deep sense of duty as a British subject, and -'" At this point Mr. Massey paused, and said he thought ho should not Tead tho rest of the resolution, as it wns rather strong, but to cries of "Go on!" from all over the House, he yielded, and read: "' and this council, of which he was a member, deeply resents the action of tho member for Grey Lynn in bring, ing Dr. Teickelman's name before the House in the list.of German suspects, and Tegards his action as nil insufferable insult to tho town and district.' It was resolved that this resolution bo telegraphed to the Prime Minister, asking him to havo it read on tho floor of tilt House." "That," said Mr. Massey, "is the opinion of the council, and I. think it is only just that the House and Hie coun. try should know the opinion held concerning the gentleman named by the residents,of the district in which ho lived."
