THE DESERT RIDE OF THE COSSACKS

Mr. Edmund Candler (the British war correspondent in Mesopotamia) reports that General Lake, at the King's order, invited the Cossack officers, who made tho adventurous ride -to Mesopotamia, to Basra, to bo decorated with Military Crosses. The Cossacks traversed passes' eight thousa-nd feet high, infested by hostile tribes. They rode light, with one pack horse to ten men. The last stage of j thirty miles was , over a parched desert.
