At a 'meeting of tho Egmont County Council, Councillor W. B. Wright moved that the council refuse to employ any eligible single men unless tliey have enlisted, and are waiting to he called -up. Ho said that lie brought forward The resolution because he understood that there was, at present in the council's employ, a young man who jeered at tho idea of going tojvaiv Councillor Campbell considered that it was no use (passing such a resolution because compulsion was in force and the matter was in the hands of the Government, 'l'he chair, man thought that now conscription was introduced the Government should bo ahlo to look into such eases. What was a single man to_do if ho was not eligibla for the war? IE was ridiculous'to go so far. Councillor Harvey understood that the man in question was unlit. They could leave it to the Governnlont to take the men they required. Tho recruiting officer's card showed that the man "lad refused to enlist and Councillor ITNeill then seconded the resolution. The resolution was nut and declared lost, the voters being as.follow:—for: Councillors Wright, M'Neill, and Forsyth; against: Councillors Harvey, Young, M'Keynolds, Campbell, and the chairman.
