ALLOTMENTS OF PAY
A PRECAUTION AGAINST ABUSES. A proposal was .made to tho Defence Minister yesterday by Mr. It. M'Callura that the Defence.Department should obtain the consent of parents of members of the Expeditionary Force who have not,yet reaqlied tlie age of 21 years, regarding fno allotment of these men's pay. He had heard of'one woman having received allotment money from three soldiers. Those lads ought not to be allowed, lie contended, to dissipate their money in this way when they had made no provision ' for their future. Tho Defence Minister said he could not ;• see bow it would bo possible to get the | consent of. parents to the allotment, of ; pay. A man who was 20 years of age was accounted from the point of view of the Department to be a responsible individual, and presumably able to deal with his own property. He had heard, however, that there Had been certain abuses. He had heard, for instance, the story of the one woman who bad received the allotment of threo soldiers. If tho •honourable member bad any specific information, he would be glad to have it, i ami he would take steps to use the flower the Department bod of stopping any sucb I allotments. ' .
