The Republican arid Progressive Conference? discussed for two hours the possibility of harmonising their differences, and then adjourned with a report that progress had been made. A. conference of harmonious sives discussed only Mr. Koosevelt. • Tho Republicans suggested Mr. C. W. Fairbanks, Mr. Elihu Root, Judge Hughes, and. others. The discussion never went beyond generalities. Both sidos report to their respective, conventions on Friday morning. ROOSEVELT'S PROSPECTS. New York, June 9. A message from Renter's Agency at Chicago states that the Republican committeemen reported ,to their convention, that ithe Progressive committeemen urgw the nomination of Colonel Roosevelt, but regular members had presented no.naine. The Conference, in committee, is being continued, with the prospect of further sessions. . . . . ; • ■ The Republicans then began receiving ' Presidential nominations." Governor Whitman, of New York,'first presented the name of Judge Hughes. ■ - Governor Whihnun denounced the present foreign policy of the United States, saying that the nation's prosperity, was only temporary, and ivas dependont wholly upon the war, ' _ The nomination of Judge Hughes was followed.by a demonstration which lasted for twenty minutes. :
