NAVY LEAGUE

■ A melting of the local executive' of the Navy. League, held last night; was attended by. Mr. J. B. Harcourt( in the chair), Messrs. R." Smith, 'U.'"Da'rr6ch, A. F. Wiren, and C. W. Palmer. It was decided to issue a. special .appeal for funds for tho relief of dependants of sailors lost in tlie great naval" battle off Jutland." The secretary's draft of a letter to bo sent to the principal' newspapers was approved, and it was. decided to have 500 subscription lists embodying the appeal printed and numbered. The president (Mr. .1. P. Luke) intimated that he would be pleased to acknowledge any sums remitted to him, and it, .was. decided to ask the various newspapers and- banks to open lists. The four centres of the league in New Zealand propose to remit at short intervals to the league' 3 London-'Emergency-Com-mittee all donations. This central body is presided,over by Lord-Charley Beresford,. ami is officially: recognised by tho Admiralty. A balance of X 25 lis. . 3d. standing to the credit of the Sailors' Comforts Fund was diverted to the Relief Fund, and it was decided that onehalf of the school branch subscriptions for this year should also go in that direction.

Aii application was received from the Director of Education in Samoa for Navy .League wall maps for the schools in Apia, and it was resolved to procure a furtlier supply of such maps. ' .' . In connection with the retirement of Lient. ICnox, a motion 'was-tarried regretting his ill-health and expressing warm appreciation of his great services to the league throughout the Empire, and especially during his visit to the Dominion.
