HUTT RIVER BOARD
At Wednesday's meeting of the Hiitt River Board there were present: Mr. H. Baldwin (chairman), and Messrs. Welch, Knight, Bowers, and Kennedy. An offer from Jlr.J. F. Duggan of ;£1 per year for a piece of ground near Hayes's property was nccepted. The overseer's report stated that the last groyne at -Mabey's was completed, the length of which was 217 ft., at a co3t of JG6S 16s. 2d. At Andrew's, a groyne was complete*, of a length of 113 ft., the cost being i£3G lis., estimate .£7O Bs. The groyne work had to be abandoned during the month owing to bad weather. The stop-bank at Mrs. Kingdon's nad been cleared of gorse and undergrowth, and all the culverts had been cleared out. Two freshes in tho river. Had occurred during the the Uth,. registering 3ft. Gin., and. on the 29th, 6ft. (jin. Near to Seager's, the river was threatening tSe road. At Welch's, MUbey's, Hooper's, and Calcinai's the groynes did good work, and the current around Mason's Gardens is now only one-third what it was before the, groynes were erected. The report was adopted, and accounts amounting to X 93 12s. lid.' were passed for payment.
