THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE.
The thirteenth 'annual conference of the Now Zealand Alliance was resumed on Wednesday. It was resolved .- "That this • congress strongly urges the Government to introduce immediately legislation to secure the closing of liquor bars from G p.m. to 8 a.m. during the. war and l'or sis months after."
It was decided that the above resolution aud ona favouring anti-shouting should bo brought before the Premier by the deputation whicli is to, wait upou liim on Thursday. It was decided to ask the Government to enforce the law relating to liquor among the Maoris. Facts concerning the prevalence of drinking in the Maori kiangas were placed before the congress. The Itev. P. T. Smolfield was elected as president for the ensuing year. The following are the names of the incoming executive committee: Messrs. A. Ho by, A. R. Atkinson, W. Spragg, C. E. Bellringer, G. Dash, G. M'Caul, P. Z. Ferryman, Robt. Hilligan, A. S. Adams, J. . J. Wesney, L. M. Isitt, M.P., R. J. Denton, Maurice Harding, and the Revs. J. Cocker, A. Donll, E. S. Gray, W. J. Comrie, and A. E. Hunt.
A resolution was adopted condemning the practice of granting wine licenses to confectioners.
<( T'he following resolution was carried: "That having heen informed of the probability of material increase in the cider industry, this convention reminds all Temperance people that cider is an intoxicant, and should lie avoided in the same way- as other forms of alcohol." The usual votes of thanks terminated the proceedings.
