REHANDICAPS FOR GISBORNE
By Telegraph,—Press Association. Gisborne, Juno 8. ■ The following are rehuudicaps for the, Gisborno Steeplechase Meeting:—Park Hurdles, MaTconi, lOst. 9d. i'Sying Handicap, . Try Fluke, lOst. 10lb. Tramway Handicap, Paremata, lOst. 131b.
NOTES AND COMMENTS
IBr Gi.excck.l
Owners should note that acceptances for the Gisborne meeting close to-night.
Entries for all events at the Hawko'a Bay Jockey Club's winter meeting close at 9 o'clock to-night.
. Naupata was lame after contesting the Great Northern Hurdles at Ellerslie, and he had to forego his engagements for tho remainder of tho meeting. Ho will require a spell before' he can bo raced again. • i
Tatterley changed hands during the progress of the Auckland meeting, and is now owned by Mr. W. J. Ralph: He has an engagement .in the Hack Hurdles at Napier, the weights for which will appear on Monday next,
El Gallo, who cost his present owner 300 guineas, has now won six times out of seven starts over fences.
After arriving in Auckland Hurakia went amiss, and the' probabilities of his racing again for some time are stated by an Auckland writer to be at present somewhat remote. .
Raugi Thompson, who has had a long spell from riding, has been granted a jockey's license by the. Hawke's Bay Jockey Club.
Crown Peari was taken north for tho Auckland meeting, but his owner'j ideas and the weight-adjuster's did hot coincide, and the Coronet gelding was not started at the fixture.
J. F. Jefl'erd's team did not remain in Auckland for tho concluding day of, tho winter meeting. Neither Multiplication nor Multiply shaped well, and Maryland developed soreness, which prevented lier racing.
Mr. G. D. Greenwood's Comedy KingAir Motor colt has been named Biplane. He lias been' nominated for the Breeders' Plate at Randwick, and apparently he and Nones are likely to make tho trip. ,
Kilboy, who is now running out' at Ellerslie, has been nominated for the Melbourne Cup, so the probabilities are that the colt will shortly be put into work a<jain, and then for tho. A.J.C. Derby, and if his form warrants it he will be sent on to Flemington. His owner (Mr. J. B. Reid) has made other trips to Australia with his horses, but no luck has befallen him. though when the animals passed into other hands they were very successful. _ Lady Medallist was an illustration of this.
Tho black horso Marc Antony, -winner of tho Great Autumn Handicap, has been entered for the Metropolitan Handicap at Randwick, but not for tho Melbourne Cup. It is quite on the cards that W. H. Thomson will take him to the Australian Jockey Club's fixture, and return for the New Zealand Cup meeting.
After being passed in at tho sale of thoroughbreds at Auckland on Tuesday, the Persian Knight—Aella colt was sold privately by Mr. E. W. Alison, jun., to Mr. W. Scholium for 22ogns ; The Aus-tralian-bred youngster goes into J. Lamboss's stable.
Tho Maiden Hurdle Race to be run at t!fc Napier Park meeting has drawn tho nomination of tho well-known flat performers, Tatterley, Bon Rove, Sir Solo, Hasknyno, and Birkful.
Harbour Light has now won the Jumpers' Flat Pace at Ellerslie two years in 6nccossion.
Tlio death is reported of Rosea), who sixteen years ago effected a surprise by winning the Canterbury Derby. When running out in a paddock the son of Handsome Jack and Bosalind fell over a wire fence and broke his neck.
Wellwood, who won the Hack and Hunters' Steeplechase at Wingatui 011 Saturday, is a general utility liorse and occasionally does duty in the shafts of a hansom cab in Dunctlin.
It was stated rec-ntly that Chortle was to bo entered for tho Epsom Handicap and other important oventw to be run at the spring meetings in and around Sydney. As tlio cablegram makes no mention of tho matter, tho idea has probably been abandons!. Good as tho Multifid scldiug is he yould require to bo favour-
ably handicapped to run a race like tlio Epsom Handicap, and it is certain tlmt in a raco like Uio big Randwick nnlo lio would meet horses equally as goou as himself that he would bo asked to give weight to. In an Epsom Handicap one is liable to meet a champion in at the minimum, and in this connection it may bo pointed out that Valsloano onco won tho raco with Gst. 121b., and later 011 was equal to the Doncastcr Handicap with 9st. Nowadays one is always likely to meet an imported horso of high calibro that has been especially reserved for tho race. Chortle would probably get Ost. in i'n Epsom Handicap, but the probabilities are that he could not win with Sst. True, he won the Caster Handicap at EUevslie with 9st. 71b., but tlio glamour of this form is taken away by Ue fact that Housewife was runner up- now when this filly was at Kandwick she w s never sighted in her effort's m pub ic, which may givo a line as to how Gbortlo w<iuld get 011. Another point that may have been overlooked by the people behind Chortle is that ho.is always a stone better horse in the autumn than he is in the spring. This has been the case both in the days of Trainer G. Jones and J. Jefford, and if the Multifid gelding was to go to Randwick at all it would appear as if the Doncaster Handicap meeting at Easter would be tho host time for him to raco in Australia. The nominations for tho Epsom anil Metropolitan Handicaps include Bee; tor the Heibourno Cup, Sea Pink, Determination, and JDi Gama; for tho Caulfield Cup, Determination, Bee, and Ho Gwna; lor the Australian Hurdles, feleight-of-Jiand and Merrimax, and for the Steeples, Morning and Tim Doolan.—Press Association. Additional entries for tho A .J.C. Metropolitan include Chortle and Colonel Soult, and for tho Eppom, Chortle—Press Association.
