A "TAWDRY LYING BOAST."
Sir,—Will you allow mo space for a 'small correction? You credit mo with tho words, "dirty lying boast." What I did say was that the gift of a Dreadnought would be ."New Zealand's proud answer to the tawdry lying boast of the Germans of a victory they' never won." This, I think, is a permissible if strong expression; the other is peculiarly offensive to uiy car.—l am, etc., LEONARD M. ISITT. House of Representatives, June 8. A DIS3RACE TO WELLINGTON. | Sir,—May I strongly protest against the treatment meted out to the invalided returned soldiers who arrived in Wellington this morning by the Mararim. All the men, many of whom are cripples, were marched from the boat to the Town Uall to listen to the Mayor's welcome. They were accompanied—aud ; in some wises assisted—by their relatives, many of whom were aged folk. Are there no motor-cars? Are therennto t conveyances? I consider it an absolute disgrace to Wellington. Compare this with the reception given your men iti England, Cape Town, Durban, and Australian ports, and tiien hide your head iu shame. .Compare this treatment with the speeches mado "on their arrival at the Town Hall. The Returned Soldiers' Association, failing proper arrangements for tho future, will raise a fund (from the Wellington public, who are only too willing) to provide suitable conveyances for their comrades on arrival. —I am, etc., DONALD SIMSON, Captain, N.Z.E. June S, 1910.
