It is. understood (states an exchange] that negotiations are in progress for the purchase of the well-known auxiliary scow Eunice for use as a lighter at Wanganui. Tho vessel arrived at Lyttelton on ' Monday morning from Kaipara, and after discharging her cargo of timber will bo placed on tho Patent Slip 1 for sighting, probably on Saturday. Tho Eunice is a stoutly-built vc6sd of 187 tons gross register/ and was built in the North of Auckland £bou} 18 years ago. Prior to making
Lyttelton lier home port, she was engaged in carrying timber between Havelock and Australia, returning ■with- a cnrito of coal from Newcastle to Wanganui. Some time ago the Eunice was flttod at Auckland with two 60 li.p. semi-Diesel oil engines. It is understood that tho negotiations are being carried out by Messrtf. A. H. Turnbull and Co. on behalf of the Ohristchurcli Meat Co., for whom the schooner Morning Light was recently purchased. SYDNEY BOAT A DAY LATE. On account of being (locked at Sydney the Riverina—next week's Sydney boat—will not clear tho New South Wales port until to-morrow —one day late. She will be hero 011 Tuesday and will not mako .tho usual run to Lyttelton. Departure for Sydney will take place on Thursday. WEST COAST FORTS UNWORKABLE. According to messages received in Wellington yesterday both Westport and Greymouth are still unworkable. Both tho Koinata and Karori, coal-laden for Wellington, are hung up at Westport. while at Greymoutlf tho Blackball Coal Company's collier Ngakuta, and the Union Company's Kamo, also laden for Wellington, are similarly detained. The blockage comes at a particularly inopportune time as coal for shipping purposos locally, is at a premium. The river at Oreyniouth is reported to be running very high. THE TE ANAU. The Te Anau is cspected to leave Auckland to-day. and is due here on Saturday. It lias been decided not to dispatch the vc6sel for the south until Monday. RIMUTAKA REACHES PLYMOUTH. A Press Association cablegram received from London yesterday morning reports tho safe arrival at Plymouth on Tuesday of the liner Rimutaka, which sailed from Wellington early in April. . THE SEARCH FOR THE MISSING CREW. A mesfage received 1 by Mr. G. Allport (Secretary of Marine) yesterday stated that the .Tauie Scddon was interrupted in .her search for the missing captian and crow of the ill-fated Southern Isles by bad weather and was forced to take shelter at Totaranui until yesterday morning. At 9.30 the little vessel wont to Tcrakoko for water, and left that placo at 1.15 p.m. for Farewell Spit to continue tho fcarch. A
message was;also -received from the.light-liouse-keeper at Farewell Spit stating tho search was continuing, but that- there was as yet no sign of the missing men.
The Wootton left for Lyttelton last niglit. On arrival at the southern port the vessel will lay up' for annnaUoverhaul. The Tarawera is due here from Lyttelton about midday to-day. She will, bo dispatched for northern ports this evening. . The Union Company's Kurow is due to leave this evening for Lytteltou., - Sho subsequently proceeds to Auckland. Tho Hhaw-Savili liner Maman left Auckland early yesterday morning for Wellington, and is due here to-morrow morning. Sho will discharge tier Home cargo at the Taranaki Street Wharf. The. vessel will proceed on to the south 011 Tuesday next.: Prom Calcutta, via Samarang and Auckland. the Union Company's big. freighter VT(iit<?irwiUi arrived in the stream last night.
