MAYOR'S PATRIOTIC FUND
BALANCE-SHEET FOR THE YEAR,
At a meeting of the Mayor's Patriotic Fund Committee on Tuesday afternoon, the balnnce-shoet for the year ended March 31, duly audited by Mr. A. S. Biss, was presented and passed. On tilie receipts sido there was a balance, brought forward from tho previous year, of c-2416 3s. 10d., and subscriptions 'amounting to .£1631 Is. lid., a total of ss. 9d. On the expenditure side appeared tho following payments:—-Expenses hospital ships, .£300; fruit for transports, ,£G32 Bs. 6d.; cigarettes aud tobacco, i! 290; refreshments, XUo Is. 4d.; musical instruments, i! 155; advertising and printing, £57 175.; Citizons' Hospital Guild, .£SO; taxi hire, i£s-l 14s. The balance in tho bank amounts to .6120 l'Js. 2d., and in hand £5 135., a total of J!l2fi 12s. 2d,
In generalising over the expenditure, the Mayor said that the expenditure covered the receptions to returned soldiers, patriotic meetings, entertainments nt the camp, fruit for the transports, ami musical instruments for tho bands of the Reinforcements. An amount was also included for the fares to England of two widows of reservists who had been killed in the war, and some of tho expenses contingent upon the initiation of tho War League. Expenses in connection with the League were now being met by_ filio City Council on behalf of the associated boroughs (Wellington and suburbs).
