TWO GERMAN LOSSES ADDED
/ TMIXIG BATM STORIES .".GREAT RUSSIAN ' - VICTORY ■ [ ..OVER"-13,000 PRISONERS ■ TAKEN . TON''OF EUSSIAN FOETUNES. I ' EUROPE' THE VERDUN BATTLE Two heavy items—tlie battle-cruisers Hindenburg . and Lutzow—have been posted to the debit side of the German balance-sheet of the great naval : battlo off the coast of Jutland. A glanco at the subjoined comparative table of losses, compiled from tlie la test available evidence, shows that the results, in points of units, is as Uto 19 in favour of the British. In point of fighting values the. odds in favour of the British are even greater. A further series of thrilling stories by; eye-witnesses of the battle appear to-day, and although they throw very little fresh light on the tactics of the battle, they furnish wor<l-picturc3 of the stupendous conflict. On land the news 'from the Russian European, front explains the noto of anxiety which was evident in yesterday's A.ustrian communique relating to a heavy Russian offensive. To-day's news reports that the Russians have scored a great victory right along the line from the Pripet Marshes to the Rumanian frontier. Tho' prolonged struggle at Verutin shows no sign of relaxing, the concentrated fury of the battle merely shifting from sector to sector. At present the issuo is X'ort Vaus, and sanguinary fighting is
proceeding for its possession.
