DIVORCE CASES
A short sitting of the Supreme Court was held yesterday, Mr. Justice Hosking presiding, to hear divorce cases. Mr. T. M.. Wilford appeared for tho petitioner in the case of Alico Thomas, who applied for a dissolution of her marriage with Bichard 'i'houias on the ground, of cruelty and drunkenness. Tho question was whether tho four years mentioned in tilt) petition had to 1m immediately prior to tUe issue of tho petition. After hearing argument His Honour stated that tho cruelty and drunkenness had been proved, but 110 take timo to look into the authorities quoted by Mr. Wilford 011 the point raised, and would give his decision at a later date. A. decree absolute was granted in the ca.ie of Bridget Young (for whom Mr. T. M. Wilford appeared), who applied for the dissolution of her marriage with Carl Young. After hearing Mr. Wilford His Honour issued the decree, granting the petitioner the custody of tho child,'tho re. spondent to have the right of seeing the child at reasonablo times. A decree absolute was granted to Mary Bond (Mr. T. M. Wilford) in respect to her petition for dissolution of marriage with Thomas Bond. His Honour also granted the custody of the three children to tho petitioner and the right of access ■ffas accorded to the respondent on tho nsual terms. TIMBER CO. IN LIQUIDATION. Before Mr. Justice Hosking,. in the Supremo Court yesterday, an application was made for confirmation by the Court of a scheme arrived at by mutual agreement for the controlling and working of tho assets of the Taupo Totara Timber Co., Ltd., and the Wellington Industrial Development Co., Ltd., both in liquidation. Mr. C. P. Skerrett, K.C., with him Mr. C. H. Howard, appeared for the appli. cants, and Mr. Alex. Gray, K.C., with him Mr. Robert Kennedy, for the respondents. A draft of the schcme of arrangement laid under Section 280 of the Companies' Act, 1308, was submitted to the Court, and His Honour issued .an order confirming the draft scheino and fixed the costs at fifty guineas and disbursements, to be paid by the respective companies.
