SnSETIKQ '01' THE COCXCIL. . Tiie council of the Chambw.' of Commerce met yesterday afternoon. There were present: .Messrs. ,las. Macintosh (president), I' 1 . \V. Manton, Thos. Bnllinger, T. C. Dawson, C. 13. Richardson, W. S. Bennett, and 'J'. AY. CuWibertson. In connection with the work of organising a campaign against German trad*, a circular was received from Mr. J{. W. Dalton, His Majesty's"Trade Commissioner in New- Zealand, asking the chamber to collect catalogues of German goods now in circulation in New Zealand. It wa3 resolved to circularise members regarding the matter, and it was also decided to hold a general meeting of IJie chamber to discuss tho question and devise the best means of fostering British trade to tho exclusion of German goods from this Dominion after the war. Messrs. Macintosh, Manton, and Dawson were appointed a sub-committee to make the arrangements necessary for tho success of tho meeting. A letter from tlio l'ahnerston North Chamber drew attontion to the necessity for tho proper delivery of "goods addressed to flag stations. The resolution of tho inland chamber was to the effect that where tablet portci-3 were employed thn Railway Department should accept responsibility for the safe delivery of goods. It was resolved to support the resolution, although it was pointed out that representations of a similar nature from Wellington had not been entertained. At the suggestion of the Napier Chamber of Commerce it was resolved to write to tho chairman of the Associated Banks asking that some steps be taken to disinfect and cleanso bank notes in tho interests of public health.' Mr. Dawson mentioned that in America! bank nota washing machines were used for this purpose. It was resolved to send a protest t«> the Shaw, Ravill and Albion Company against their disembarking passengers at Wellington 0110 day and ihen sending their-vessels north, to Auckland for tha disembarkation of passeugers and tho discharge of cargo for that port, thereby inconveniencing Wellington traders.
