Elder,of 'Waikanae, has donated towards the payment of the remaining debt of ,£l4O, and the, band president, Captain R. L. Evatt, of the 15th Reinforcements, will bo glad to receive further donations. Corporal Brunette is Landtnaster, and already the band has taken part in several routo marches. Another of these "will be held this afternoon, the • T? nto being from the camp to Pigeon Bush and back. The Twelfth were the first Reinforcements to have their own band : on the march aoross. the Rimutakas.. The Fifteenth will also' havo music on tho big march, 1 : . ■ Featherston Camp. The Featherston Camp has been subjected to a severe test in the matter of weather during the past'week, and, on the whole, has.cbme out of-.the test well, ri'hat portion of it which lies on the western side of the main road, and i 3 .well-graded and drained, was quite' dry n few hours after the rain ceased. Mua was in evidence on tho eastern-side, where the canvas camp is, and where something like_ 60 buildings have now been erected. 'Active steps are.' being 'taken, however, to grade and drain this portion, too. Some toads and footpaths have been made, and drays are carrying large quantities of Inetal to be spread wherever it is needed. The worst feature which meets visitor to the camp, isthe bad'"state of the roads between the camp - and Featherston and . Greytbwn. The main road, where it passes through the camp has been put in a good state by the camp authorities. Between the camp and Featherston a start has been made by the County Council' >to spread metal and.roll it. On the Greytown 6ide, however, nothing has been done yet. ..New Buildinns. . In both camps, buildings continue to go up. Ladies' cloak Tooms' are among these, the dental quarters 'been enlarged considerably ■ to meet the de- , mands of the'work.';' - The staff of, 17 postal officers at Featherston. now have their own' sleeping-ciuarteis, ' only «, the postmaster sleeping, in the office. Extra quarters for medical, and dental officers, and /for nurses . have., been completed at iFeatherston, sitting-r.ooms and bathrooms being provided in each building. . .The Combined Institute. The . building of the Combined , institute, which has been' put up. at Featherston Camp by the Presbyterian, Methodist, Congregational Churches, the Church . of - Christ, and'the Y.M.C.A., and was . opened.last week:. by . Mr. Allen, is a roomy' and comfortable place. There are three large rooms, as well as 6malleT ■ offices, one being a- another a reading and writing-room, ' and the third a games room. In the last-named room every variety of game, some "of a' novel nature, are provided; Chaplains R. Watson,, 'of. the 1, Presbyterian Church, Neale, ;of the Methodist: - Church,and E. J. Flewelleri King, of the Y.M.C.A., are a Committee of Management for the control of the institute. Night Operations. ' The-15th Infantry Reinforcements, numbering- about 1500, men, ■ marched out of Featherston Camp on Friday afternoon to engage in night operations and an' attack at dawn at Morrison's Bush, where the defending force' was to ; form an outpost. . .One paity of attackers was to-form an outpost near , tho Tauherenikau Bridge ,on the main road, and the other at Papawai. From these : points they would teiarchon the defenders', position and attack at dawn this ; morning. Lieut.'Colonel C. 'R. Macdonald was in charge of the operations, and the Chief of Staff ;(Colonel C. M. • Gibbon), and ! Camp Commandant; (Lieut.-.Colonel N. P.-Adams) visited "the-outposts duringthe night.
