Chaplain-Captain Ivnowles-Smith, at the great patriotic gathering in tho Town Hall yesterday, threw in a few personal remarks which afforded comic relief to a serious utterance. Advocating total abstinence for soldiers, he said he had beon made a teetotaller by his father. When he was 10 weeks old his nurse declared that ho wanted some spirits, or he would "dee." "Well, let him dee," said the fond parent. Evidently the youngster had enough native spirit to keep lum alivo without the use of strong waters.
WHAT A CHRISTCHURCH DENTIST SAYS ABOUT HIS STUDEBAKER. We have made big claims for the Studebaker car on the score of its reliability, its simplicity, and the ease with which it can be driven. Tho following letter addressed to us by Mr. R. Cowper, surgeondentist, of this city, demonstrates the kind of servico the Studebaker will give in tho hands of an owner who has had comparatively littlo driving experience. Mr. Cowper purchased a Studebaker car from us on November 30th last, and his first lengthy tour was one in tho North Island during the recent Christmas and Sew .Year holidays. Concerning his experiences on that tour Mr. Cowper writes: "Just a few lines to tell you how thoroughly satisfied I am with my Studebaker car. ' As you know, I took it away with me to the North Island, find went in all about 1200 miles, over all the big hills up in the north. Going from Wellington through to Napier over tho Rimutakas. across to Palmorston, Wanganni, and New Plymouth, and back to Wellington over the famous Paekakariki Hill, tho car took all the big hills with tho greatest ease, and did not give me the Slightest anxiety. All that distance it. was not touchcd by anyone savo to give it netrol and oil, and we did not .-veil liavo to put wind into the tyres. You will bo surprised to hear that I brought tho car over the Zig-zag from Lyttclton to Sumner, which says something for tho oar and the way you taught me to drive." The Studebaker driven by Mr. Cowper was, of course, equipped with electric self-star-ter and electric lights. The new 1916 model Stndobakers will be to hand shortly, a first shipment being expected next week. The prices of the new models are: 25J].p. five-scaten (including electric selfstarter, electric lights, and full road equipment), ,£315; 25 li.p. three-seater (samo equipment), .£'335. They ere even better than the 1915 model, which has (•iven such magnificent satisfaction to all purchasers, Adams, Ltd.. N.Z. Importers of Studebaker Motor?,•Christchurch, Palmorston North, Wanganni.
