THE WEEKLY REPORT OF THE DEPARTMENT.
Tlie following progress statement of the work of tho Discharged Soldiers' Infor-mation-Department has been furnished by the; Minister in Charge (tlio Hbni A. L, Hordman): — (1) Total number of men ou rogister*.— (a) Disposed of, 2518; (b) under action, 1094; (c) not ready for action (including men returned by recent transports), 1001: total 4616.
(2) 'Reports received' from' interviewing officers, 3083; reports-in'-hands of interviewing! officeis,';3SßV;rcports.' issued; 3121. (3) Particulars showing liou* cases dealt with i—(A) Cases disposed'of! (a) Left Now Zealand, or cannot ascertain address', 100; (b) re-enlisted or returned to military duty, nr have work to return to, etc., 1166; (c) men who have signed "assist, jinco .not'" required," 'G9l; .(d) men .'.placed in employment,. 512; (e). men who havo hot responded to repeated comnrunications, and men who havo accepted work the Department found for them, but failed 1 to start work,' 79; total, 2518. (B) Cases under action:—(a) Reports upon cases not yet returned by officers making inquiries, 338; (b) awaiting further advico (chiefly men who havo stated that they are not yet desirous of work), 422; (c) at present on employment wanted register, 331;. total, 10'Ji..-: , (C) Cases not ready for .action : Mon recently returned to New Zealand now convalescing, not ready for employment, and not yot discharged by the military authorities, iflIM; grand total, 1016.
