STORMY DEBATE IN REICHSTAG
THE PEACE ISSUE AND AMERICA VIOLENT SPEECHES CENSORSHIP DENOUNCED By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Amsterdam, Juno 1. During a stormy debate in tlio -Keichstag, the Conservatives accused Herr von Bethmann-Hollweg (the Imperial Chancellor) with surrounding the Kaiser with a ctiquo of advisers, preventing him from learning the truo wishes nl' the people. Dr. Helfferich (the new Vice-Chancellor) vehemently retorted: "The Kaiser's namo must not be introduced." The Conservatives and National Liberals next bitterly attacked Herr von Beth-mann-Hollweg and Dr. Jagow (tho Imperial Foreign Minister) for supinoly yielding to America, oil the submarino question. Most of the speeches were accompanied by -violent attacks on Amcriai and President Wilson. The idea of President Wilson acting as mediator was strongly denounced. Tho Centre Party applauded the National Liberals' description of President Wilson as the protector of America's ammunition supply and England's starvation of Germany. Herr von Graefe, a Conservative, suggested that Herr von Bethniann-Hollweg's speeches and Interviews should (? not) be censored. Tho enemy Press was interpreting them as a veiled retreat, with the. result that President Wilson, after stifling Germany, was posing' as an angel of peace. ' Dr. Helfferich replied that the abolition of the censorship concerning the German war aims was impossible. The Keichstag resolved that the freedom of the Press should only be restricted in the interest of a victorious termination of the war. GERMAN CHANCELLOR ON A > PEACE TOUR . Gormany olferiug part of Alsace and Lorraine as a basis of peace, in order to embroil the Allies, and 6hake the Eronch determination for a completed victory. ANTI-MILITARIST RESOLUTIONS (ltec. .Tunc 2, 5.15 p.m.) Amsterdam, Juno 1. There was an animated anti-militarist discussion in the Beichstag. Resolutions were adopted demanding that non-military matter should bo submitted 1 only to tho civil rights should not bo encroched upon introduction of a Bill guaranteeing that oivic rights should not be encroached upon by the military. ■ . ■
