ON ACTIVE SERVICE,
• A mooting of members of the C.E.M.S. on active service, the first of Its kind, wag held in the matron's room at tho N.Z. General Hospital, Pont-dc-Konbl>eh, Cairo, on Sunday evening at 8 o'clock on April 2. The chaplain, the Rev. M'Kon-zie-Gibsoii, presided, and gave a. most eloquent address. A paper was givon by Brother (Private) Rich, of St. John's College, Auckland, on "Prayer," and-wan much appreciated by all. There were nine members present, and each member bar one represented a different branch in Now Zealand, and the ninth man hailed from Buenos Aires. Fivo of those presont were soldiers, patients in hospital, one being wheoled in on a chair; the remaining four wore medical orderlies on. staff. Tho service opened with the beauti--' ful hymn, "Nearer My God to Thco," led by Brother (Private) H. Innes-.Tones, who represented Wellington, and is the only member present from that city. Ho is not in the best of health, and is under special treatment. The meeting closed with hymn 695, for absent friends, and the Benediction, pronounced by tho chaplain. XJiua ended a most inspiring eyoning, and one that reminded all of home and. loved ones far away across the sea. The writer adds that tho medical orderlies reoeiveil two packets o£ cigarettes, and on each packot was a tag with the compliments of The Dominion newspaper. They were much appreciated, and uheera were given for Tub Dominion. He also confesses that he enjoyed liis very mocli, although a non-smoker, and likewise did other soldiers!
