Subscription to Patriotic Fund,
The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) has received from the New Zealand insurance Company, Ltd. '("Wellington), per Jlr. It. IS. Kempthorne, manager, a cheque for .£166 13s. Id., being tho first of three equal annual instalments voted by the company towards the Wellington Patriotic Fund. Tho following'letter, in which a recommendation' has been made, regarding tho disposal of the amount, was enclosed:—"Referring to tho circular letter of October 1, 1915, and with tho view nf distributing the amount voted, it lias been decided by the directors to authoriso cur managers to pay to their local -Patriotic Association one-third. of tho amount allotted to tho branch, with tho strong recommendation that one-half of same be forwarded to the organisation of-the Y.M.C.A., catering for the comforts, etc., of our New Zealand men at tho front, the opinion being that bucli a mothod would be of very practical patriotic assistance; the balance to be applied to any purpose whatsoever tho Patriotic Committoe may decide; The sum of ,£SOO has been allotted to your branch, and .£3OO between Nelson and Marlborough, divided into three equal annual instalments, viz.First instalment payablo now; second instalment payable October, 1916 (i.e., 12 months from, date money first voted); third payable Ootober, 1917." A Rollor Bandage Evening. A bondage-making evening for gentlemen, organised by Mrs. Barltrop, was held at the Red Cross Depot in Mercer Sweet last night. The .members of the party, who were all members of the Government Life Insurance Department, above military age, displayed- much enthusiasm in' their work, which they were undertaking for the first time, and as a result of their labours close upon 200 bandages were rolled before their operations ceased. Mrs. Barltrop and her party are very grateful to the members of the Karori Golf Bandage Club for the loan of their winders, which they have offered for further use any evening savo Tuesday, on which, night they hold their own bandage-making evening. Coffee was a very pleasant interlude, and the members of the party are looking forward to their meeting on Thursday evening next Petone Ladies' Rifle Club. There was a good attendance at last' Sjening's practice of the Petone Ladies' Rifle Club. . It was intimated during the evening that a handicap competition among members would be commenced next week, and tho secretary of the Petone Rifto Club (Mr. Hogg) is o act as handicapper. The first prizo is a trophy donated by Mrs. Biirns, and the second is to be presented by Mr. T. M. Wilford, M.P. Third and fourth prizes are to be given by the club. A trophy has also been offered. by Mr. J. Elvines for the highest aggregate number of points for the 1 year, commencing in July next. Miss Fraser will donate a prize for the highest score on October 26, and the club secretary (Miss Wakelin) for the most "bulls'-eyes" tor the season;
