A NEW ZEALAND ENGINEER'S PHI, VATE OPINION OP THE STUDEBAKER, The Tourist Motor Co., Hastings, knowing that we ore closely interested in Studebaker motors, have forwarded to us ft oopy of a lengthy business letter sent them by Mr. Allan. H. M'Lean, the engineer of their firm, who is at present in Detroit, investigating the claims of the 191G models of the great American automobile manufacturers. The Tourist Motor Co. have very courteously given us permission to publish extracts from the letter, and we extract the following paragraph as likely to interest owners and prospective owners of Studebaker cars:— : "My honest opinion about tho Studebaker car is that it is tho best value for money .on the American market, and as far as finish and workmanship are concerned it is second to none. I consider that we would bo foolish to take up the agency for any higher priced car that is built hove, because if wo repaint tho Studebaker and equip it with wire wheels it would be equal to tho Minerva in appear* once and quietness of running. The engine is tho cleanest designed one that I havo inspected." It may be explained that Mr. M'Lean's mission to America was to secure the agency of a high-priced American car to take tho place of the firm's Silent Ivnight Minerva, agency. There is a good market in Hawke's Ddy for the very best car obtainable, regard« loss of price. Mr. M'Lean's honest opiii- . ion regarding tho Studebaker is that there is 110 American car on the market better than the btudebaker at "any price. The five-scator touring Studebaker (4-cyiinder 25 h.p.), with electric self-starter and dec! trie lights, sells in Now Zealand for .£345 tho three-seater Studebaker, with sama equipment, being priced at .£3,15.)
