Tho death of Gunner John Charles Thomson, 18th Artillery Reinforcemento (oply son of Mr. J. C. Thomson. He was a survey, cadet, 22 years of age, and enlisted at Invercargill in Eefouafy last; His remains wero taken south last night for interment at lUverton, The causa of death was pyaemia.

■ Mr. J'. Piper, of Petoce, has received a letter from Corporal A. J. Seamer, from the military' hospital at Dunedin. The letter states that the writer (who was at one time in charge of the Petone Methodist Church) f;ot hurt by a fall before reaching Egypt with the Expeditionary Forces, and had been ordered back to Now Zealand, and since reaching Dunedin had undergone an operation, and was now on the up-grade, and anxious to join hia unit in Francs. The president of tho Wesleyan - Conference desires the Eev. Seamer to take the chaplaincy at'Trentham, in place of Chaplain Walker, but the former had not yet come to a decision on the matter.

Advice has been received that Mr. H. W. Giles, of Wellington, passed his final examination as a signal and wireless operator at the Broadmeadows School of Instruction, Melbourne, being one of four out of 4QO students to gain the possible marks. He has been posted to the Ist Australian Light Horso Brigade, stationed in India, and left a fortnight ago to join his unit,- Mr. Arthur Giles, another brother, entered Trentham with the 17th' Reinforcements.

A cable message received in Wellington yesterday morning announced that Lient, Max Juriss (formerly sergeant-instructor in the Defence Department at Welling, ton), who went to ago and joined the "King's Own," and later transferred to another British regiment,, is reported missing since May 22. His wife resides at Hataitai. Lieut. Juriss is o brother of Mr. Harry Juriss, of Wellington. After ( leaving the Defence Department he conducted a physical training school in Wellington, but more recently undertook other work. He tried in vain to obtain a commission in the local forces, .and oventually paid his own fare to England, where lie was at once gfven a commission owing to his soldierly qualities, and military knowledge.

Lieut. W. W. Fitzherbert, 13th Batlalion Royal Susses Regiment, reported wounded in The Dominion of May 31, is progressing satisfactorily. He was injured by a fragment of shell above the knee while serving on the Headquarters Staff ill France. .Lieut. Fitzherbert is a son of the late Mr. W. A. Fitzherbert, Lower Hntt. His brothers are serving as follows:—Captain H. G. Fitzherbert, AntiAircraft Division, E.G.A.; Lieut. H. 'L. Fitzherbert; also with 13th Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment, in France. Mr. C. W. Fitzherbert, who has been farming in the Argentine, enlisted in London in April. ...
