Frank Humphreys, aged 35, a singlo man, working on tho wharf at Lyttelton, was found in a shed at Officers' Point this afternoon with his throat cut. He came to Lyttelton about-eighteen months ago.' SMOTHERED IN A WOOL-PRESS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, May 31. Lan M'Gregor, four years of age, fell into a wool-press at the Ellis Flock Mill at liaikorai to-day. The child was found ! at 6 p.m. smothered. He had been playing about near where his father worked, and. was found by the latter head downwards in the press. . The father tried to' restore animation, but without result. TWO WORKMEN DROWNED. Hamilton, May 30. Two workmen—Robert Jackson, a married man, and Arthur Napier—were drowned in the Waikato River at Nangiriri, at 8.30 this morning. They were employed by M'Lean and Co., bridge contractors, on construction work on the new bridge, to cross lower than, this spot. They were engaged in removing a winch when the punt became entangled in. the wire-rope and upset. The bodies of the men lave not been recovered.
