Mr. P. S. Pope, Secretary of the Department of Agriculture, Industries, and Commerce, has sent the following circular to a number of the Chambers of Commerce throughout the Dominion:— "Sir,—The Right Hon. the Prime Minister has received from tho Acting Primo Minister of the Commonwealth of Australia a communication, dated 20th ultimo, in which attention is drawn to the largo exportable surplus of dried fruits (currants, lexias, sultanas, and raisins) available in tho Commonwealth this season. It appears that owing to tho limited amount of tonnage available for transportation to tho United Kingdom, Australian growers aro experienc. ing difficulty', in disposing of this fruit, and it has been urged by representative bodies-of Australian dried fruit growers tbat possibly thore may exist in New Zealand favourable markets for these products, which may prove of considerable advantage to merchants and growers both in the Dominion and the Commonwealth. I shall be glad if you will have this information passed on to tho members of your chamber likely to be interested."
