FRENCH CLUB
The members of the French Club met on Wednesday evening. Mr. Cooke presided, and there was a fair attendance. Alter a piano solo by Miss Una Simon, Mr. Cooke contributed a recitation, "Les Pauvres Gens" (the poor folk), by Victor Hugo. The principal item was a lectm-e by Air. Grant,, entitled "Scottish Wit." lie gave a short account of the country and its inhabitants, and then dealt with some national characteristics. He narrated a number of ancixlotes, and quoted Max.O'Rcll to show that the Scotch appreciated humour more than the English. A brief discussion followed the lecture, and much appreciation of it was expressed. The proceedings closed with the singing of "Auld Lang Sync" and the "Marseillaise."
