[Bt Gi.encoe.] The Dunedin meeting is to open on Thursday, and will be concluded on Saturday. The Auckland meeting will commence on Saturday, ! when the Great Northern Hurdles and Cornwall Handicap will be run. General entries for the Winter meeting of the Napier Park Racing Club close on Friday nest. In connection, with tho Otaki Maori Racing Club's Winter meeting, to be held on' Saturday and Monday, the usual up-to-dato train arrangements have been made. Three special trains will run'on Saturday to convey the large crowd of visitors that regularly attend tho meeting. It only wants fine weather for a .record gathering, and with the largo fields engaged there should be some good racing. f R. J"; Mason, with Emporador and Greanstreet, passed through Wellington yesterday on his; way. home to Riccarton. Entries for the V.lt.C.' Grand National Hurdles and Steeplechase close to-night at 6 p.m.
The Hawera mare, Maid o' Gowrie, has filled the position of runner-up in each of her last threo starts- The Birkenhead maro, is consistent, but in each of her races tho winner has comfortably accounted tor her, and were it not that the field swung well and: O. M'Carten got her up on ,tho fence—saving many lengths—sho would not liavo beon in a placo at Wangauul on Saturday.
J. O'Shea rods threo winners at tho Oauiaru meeting, while his rival, Emerson, only scored onco. The last-named is riding on the first day at Dunedin, and will then come north for tho Otaki fixture. O'Shea wont through from Oamaru on bunday evening.
It was intended that Tannhauser would bo brought north for tho OtaEl meeting, but after .the Oamaru meeting, where he showed up well on the second day, tho Martian- gelding was, again walking tenderly in front, ao I*. M'Grath decided to abandon the trip north./
The cross-country horseman, L. Traill, alter being accepted by the Defenco Department, has, beon rejected for active service owing to injuries to his back. Traill will.have the mount on Ngatoa.in the Great Northern Steeplechase, and oil Harbour Light in the Great Northern Hurdles.
Martius broke down badly while racing in the Oamaru Cup.
J. O'Connell, who rode Pursefiller at Wanganui on Thursday, scored his, first success since he mot with a severe accident at the Hawke's Bay Spring meeting last October. O'Connell will rido Purt-e----tillei' and Hurakia. in the Great iS'orthern double, but will not ride any other horses until these races are decided.
The profits of tho North Otago Jockey Club's meeting, held at Oauiarn last week, will probably be in tho neighbourhood of JiIUU, and this sum will bo haudrd over, to assist the Wounded Soldiers' Ji'und. There .were several unexpected iucidents in. tho President's Handicap at Oamaru. Quirinus was going well in front about five furlongs from homo when his girth broke, leaving only a light surcingle to hold the saddle. A little further on Oxenhope was making a good run, but ho stopped quickly, one of his stirrup loathera having broken.
