WILLOCHRA LEAVES DUNEDIN
MEN IN QUARANTINE TO BE RELEASED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, May 29. Drs. Valintine and Hope Lewis visited the Willochra on Saturday afternoon, and as a result of an inspection the vessel, with about forty members of the old crew, left at midday yesterday for Weilington. Unless there are any fresh developments, tho troops on Quarantine Island will probably be dispatched to their homes to-morrow. ONE SERIOUS CASE. Later. The Willochra's soldiers will be released to-morrow, after 16 days' quarantine. Dr. Valintine, when interviewed, stated that everything was satisfactory. The general health and appearance of the men have improved. Vaccination' has been most satisfactory; only 23 out of the whole number, do not show marks of efficient vaccination. These men have been vaccinated three times, and if they do. not tako, it may be regarded as conclusive proof that they, are immune from vaccination. All the men, with the exception of the two smallpox cases and their attendants, will be released to-morrow. One case is very seriously ill—a Waikato man. Out of fifteen cot cases only one is regarded as really ill. The crew of the Willochra has been released. All have been efficiently vaccinated. Dr. Valintine states he has every reason to be satisfied; considering the outbreak occurred on the ship, ho quite expected to havo more cases. The northern men will leave by special train at noon to-morrow.
The Willochra arrived in Wellington at 5.35 yesterday evening.
