Sir Auvel Stein (of tlx-e Indian Archaeological Survey Department, on special duty) has arrived after thirty months of journeying in Eastern Turkestan, Western China, the Pamirs, Russian Turkestan, Persia, .and Afghanistan, marching over 11,000 miles. [Sir Aurel Stein, , K.C.1.E., Ph.D., D.Litt. (Oxon), D.Sc. (Camb.), is superintendent of the, Indian Archaeological Survey Bianch on special duty. Ho is Hungarian by birth and was educated in Austria, Germany, and in England. While Srinoipal of tho Oriental Collego at , Laore, India, and Registrar of the Punjaub University (1888-99), he effected antiquarian researches in Kashmir and on the Afghan frontier. He has carried out various archaeological and geographical researches for the Indian Government in ont-of-way regions of Asia, a.nd has published various books oil the results of his reseurch work."] •
