FIGHTING "C.T'S."

A FAREWELL GATHERING

At the Commercial Travellers' Club last evening; a number of -members of the Commercial Travellers' - Associations in different parts of New Zealand, were ; heartily farewelled by the members of the local . association. Mr. W. Bridson occupied; the chair, and in proposing the health of the men in khaki who were ■present, said they were going to take part in more serious operations than soliciting orders. It was a commercial war, for they were going to fight the Germans, and he hoped they would stral'e them soundly.. He would say this, that the club had sent away many members to the front, they/were still going forward, and would continue to do so until they were iftiite sure they had secured the whole of .the orders that,hitherto had been' collected for Germany. Finally, ho told those present of a notice he had'recently seen, w,hich read: "If you want to talk- war, join the Army and get paid for it!" (Applause.) Before the {health of the Commercials -in khaki ,;was. drunk, the secretary read uie roll-call td' all who were present, or should be present, the men standing up as the'.roll was called. The names were: Canterbury—lSsssrs. Ottley, Partridge, and Hassell. . Auckland—Messrs. I'ount--ney, .15. Mitchell, Hensen, Even, A. 'Wilson,- Twinane. Otago—Messrs, D. F. Keid, W. Anderson, and W. .A. Brown. Wellington—Messrs. W. F. Nces, Scanuell, Redstone. J. Lloyd, F. Jacobson, Doughty,, Hale, Hay den," A. J. Young, W. H. -'Lascelles, W. P. Salmon, Charle'sworth, "Anzncs" M'Williams, and Noel Broadband Becruits Quinn and M'Kenzie.. ' • • Several of Hie .men named ■ replied, thanking the ciub for its hospitality and the good wished'expressed for their future welfare. A splendid and varied programme was contributed to* by Messrs. Thomson, J. B. Speed, F.- 'JLViss, Fitzmaurice, Peek, A. WV Newton,. Tliojrpe, Watson, Major M. Marks, Jas. Dosherty, Ilolloway.' N. Aitken, W. W. -'Crawford, and others. .
