PREJUDICING COLONIAL MEAT

Meat importers complain that Australian and New Zealand mutton and lamb are being sold at an averago of 3£d. per .pound cheaper than mutton and lamb from the Argentine,'ostensibly-in .order to keep prices down, and it is alleged that 'tho Government thereby is realising .£20,000 weekly less than it might, this sum apparently going into tho pockots of intermediaries, and not benefiting >tho consumers. As tho retail prices were tho same as for Argentine, forced sales of colonial meat, at lower prices than Argentine would tend to prejudice the reputatiqa of tho colonial meat to tho advantage of its strongest competitors
