The French, however/ appear to be equally determined to prevent the Huns succeeding, and the news to-flay shows tlxtt numerous German attacks have been lepulsed. In tbo Trentino tKe Austrian offensive, it is said, has been temporarily checked, and the Italians claim that their main positions have scaroely been touched. Tlio fighting ou this front is very severe, 'ind as a counterblast the Italians threaten an offensive from Avalona, in Albania, where they have, a big force. From Mesopotamia comes the news that.tbe Russians, who were moving forward from the Kermanshah district of Persia, have junotionod with the British below Kut-el-Amara. A report from General lake shows tlip,t tho position ial Kut is not changed. In Egypt British airmen have given tho enemy no peace, and the destruction of water tanks at Bir Rod Salem is said to have completely upset the Turkish plans. His Majesty tho King has issued a. stirring message to tho people on giving the Koyiil assent to the Military Service Bill. Tie King states that 5,011,000 men have been raised by the voluntary system, far surpassing that of any nation recorded in history. The news on the whole is satisfactory.
