' Tuesday, July 4, has been decided on as the date for the ''performance of Gounod's opera, "Faust," at .the. Town Hall, by tho lioyal Choral Union. Orchosfcral rehearsals are now. being ! held as well as choral,, and from the present : outlook a very interesting performance is ; promised. . It will be news to the Wellington pnblie to learn- that Miss Elsie Treweek, ,of v Melbourne,., who sang the rolo of Sautuzza in "Cavalleria Kusticana" here last year with the Koyal Choral Society (on which occasion she gave a most artistic and interesting performance), has been engaged to. sing Marguerite. So far only ; two' otheiv characters hare been definitely cast. These are Mephistopheles (Mr. H. -Hodges)'. and Valentine '(Mr. Frank Charlton). ■ . The Union Committee h?.s decided that "Israel in Egypt" shall bo tho subject of the second concert of the season. '
