' The usual meeting of the French Club «as Held on Wednesday evening., lira. he\ ulc, a vice-president, presided, and there was a very fair attendance of members and visitors. After n piano solo by Madame .Dechanet-M'lnlosh, Atisa Hind contributed a reading. Nest,' Mr. Hudson sang "La Piu-isiemie," and several of the members joined in the chorus. Tho principal item was a lecture by Mrs. oouilall, u 1 rencli lady, who discoursed on the great French festival tlml commemorates annually tlio taking of the Bastille at the beginning of the French Kevolution. She spoke nf the miseries oF tile I rencli people before that epoch, llien she dealt with tho efforts of tho French Court to overawe'tho people's representatives by stationing troops near Paris. Next she narrated tlie uprising of . the people of Paris, their seizing of muskets and cannon, and their siege of the Bastille, a fortress that dominated Pans. Later 011 she told of her being present at the festival in Paris, three years ago, on tho anniversary of the taking of the Bastille. The lecture was considered-a great treat, not only for tho matter, but especially on account of its pure French, yet 'given in an interesting style to make it suitable to students who nr. not thoroughly conversant with French. Mrs. Bendall was heartily applauded. and cordially thanked. -
The club decided to appoint. Jlr. John Tfi.sg, who was formerly president, as a life member, in recognition of liis valuable services to the club.
