The scene of tho accident tf»is tho vicinity of the south signal-box, on a set of rails some distance from the passonger platform, and at a spot where porsons other, than railway officials would not be expected to cross the line. From what the police could gather last night, an engine, which had just been detached from a train, was returning to tho en-gine-shed, and on the cow-catcher a shunter named Shirley was riding. Ho saw. nothing unusual until the figure of a man appeared in the darkness and;fell across the line as if tho signal wires had tripped him. Almost at the same instant the man was struck by the engine, and, as was afterwards discovered, killed outbody was later identified as that of Alexander Thomson, whose relatives were communicated with. Ho was about 38 years of age, and had been married some years, a widow and three young children surviving him. An. inquest will be held. -
