111 - . L. G. Iteid, S.M., presided at yes. terday's sitting of the Magistrate's Court and among the cases he had to deal with was one in which James Frederick JepSOU was charged with selling adulterated milk. There were four separate charges aiising out of transactions on two diffiirent dates. Mr. V. It. .Meredith, of the Crown Law Office, appeared for the proseoution, tho defendant being represented by Mr. J. F. W. Dickson. It was not disputed that the defendant, who was a vendor in a small way at the time o'f the- sales, had sold the milk as he received it from his supplier, but this did not absolve him from blame. The Magistrate pointed out that the publio had to be protected in matters of this sort, and the vendor was responsible to the public. • Convictions on all charges were recorded and a fine of £o was imposed. Costs and expenses increased tho ..penalty to £7 Bs. MAINTENANCE. Kate Mansill was granted a separation order against hor husband, fleorge" Toward Mansill, who was ordered to pay a weekly sum of <£1 for his wife's maintenance. No appearance was made by Thomas Hodges, who was charged with disobedience of a maintenance order, tho arrears amounting to The Magistrate made an order for payment of tho amount .within one week, the alternative being a month's imprisonment. , SUNDAY TRADING. On charges of' Sunday ..trading, Helen Grilar and Morris Lehaney were fined each and ordered to pay costs of Court amounting to 7s. in each case. Ada Garrett and Walter Lawson wore convicted and discharged on charges of aiding and abetting tho offence of Sunday trading. ASSAULT. Henry Khrlstian Jensen was fined £2 and ordered to pay witness's expenses Os., and solicitor's foe ,£1 Is., for assaulting Georgo Edward Blake. The alternative was seven days' imprisonment. Mr. P. W. Jackson appeared for the informant, while Mr. H. F. O'Leary appeired for tho defendant. ' ' THEFT. > For stealing a blanket from a childje perambulator, a young man, named James Callaghan, was fined «£1 and ordered to ,pay 4s. fertile expenses of a witness. Default Ivas fixed at 14 days' imprisonment. OTHER CASES. The following persons appeared to answer charges of drunkenness:—Charles Crossley Cox, fined 205., with the alternative of three days' imprisonment; Bartholomew Mahoney, fined 103,, or 48 hours' imprisonment; Norah Nugent, convicted and discharged; and thirteen Awt offenders. Benjamin Hopkins, who pleaded not guilty to a charge of disorderly conduct while drunk, was remanded until Friday next. Eric. Norman Jl'Alinden, who made .use of obscene hyiguago in Holland Street, was fined in default- to undergo li days' imprisonment. A prohibition order was issued against the accused. A man, named Koss Kir.g, was fined 2As, for indecency in Buckle Street, and another 20s. for resisting arrest. Default was fixed at 48 hours' imprisonment Arthur Short, charged. with drunkenness and with using obscene language, was Tomamled until. this morning.
