THE CALL FOR MEN
MAKING UP DEFICIENCIES
YESTERDAY'S RESPONSE
Recently the Defence authorities made a call on the various recruiting districts for another 200 men to go into camp at iSrentham, and it was poorly responded to by the AVellington and Canterbury military districts. Auckland was asked to supply 53 men, Wellington 67, Canterbury 47, and Otago 33. Auckland responded with 47 and Otago with 17. Wellington supplied 13, while Canterbury did not send a mail in. The districts mentioned have now been requested to mako up their respective deficiencies and to send the men into camp with the 17th Reinforcements nest week. Auckland and Otago have supplied full quotas for the lGth Reinforcements. Wellington military district, however, is still 86 short, and Canterbury 68. Seeing that Wellington City and Suburbs Group up till yesterday had sent 22 men over and above its quota into camp for the Seventeenths; the local authorities do not anticipate that the difficulty of supplying the extra men will be insurmountable. Of that number 10 were declared unfit by the medical examiners and three were reported temporarily unfit. • The names of the 20 men who passed the doctor as being medicallj fit are:— A. P.
